The NSW rail Legends of Steam

Experience an icon of NSW steam - take a ride with famous express locos 3526, 3642 and 3830, or elegant vintage locos like 2705.

Travel in nostalgic style

Our steam days out and community events feature nostalgic travel in the style of the 1930s -historic carriages with comfortable, cosy compartment or centre aisle seating - all with opening windows to enjoy the sights and sounds of steam.

Explore the Hunter and Central Coast; Southern Highlands and South Coast; the Blue Mountains, or visit community events and the Thirlmere Rail Heritage Centre.

Experience rail travel the way it used to be -
All our steam days out and community steam events offer standard class travel in historic carriages in true 1930s style - comfortable compartment or centre aisle seating and windows that open so you can enjoy the sights and sounds of steam.

  A licensed buffet service is available on board during most of the journey serving tempting treats, snacks, light meals (on longer journeys), and a wide range of drinks.

Our tours feature convenient pick up and set down locations as indicated in each itinerary - each boarding station has car parking and rail connections.

All times shown are indicative - exact times and travel arrangements will be confirmed when tickets are issued by mail ten days prior to travel.

Hop off at Leura to enjoy a Springtime walk along the treelined streets and a leisurely lunch at the village shops, restaurants and cafes, right by the station.

Enjoy a mountain café lunch and an easy bushwalk at historic Mount Victoria, or, explore the traditional charms of Katoomba – lunch at the historic Paragon Café or the grand Carrington Hotel - the rejuvenated Echo Point and the Scenic Railway complex are an achievable walk or shuttle bus ride from the station.

Go to the glorious gardens of the annual Bowral Tulip Festival on our optional coach connection, or...

Travel through to charming Robertson village - visit the traditional pub and fine cafés, arts and crafts shops, or picnic on the village common right by the historic railway station – admire the highland gardens and stretch your legs in the fresh highland air.

Rejoin 3642 at Robertson for the relaxing run back to Sydney – down the spectacular rainforested Illawarra escarpment, along the south coast beaches and through the Royal National Park.

Settle back in 1940s style and enjoy the sights and sounds of steam as 3642 climbs through Sydney's north. The attractive waterway route takes 3642 from Brooklyn across the Hawkesbury and along the shores of Mullet Creek and Brisbane Water to Gosford.

Enjoy an effortless day of family fun - spend some time relaxing at Hawkesbury River ... picnic by the river ... enjoy fish and chips from a café ... laze at the Angler's Rest pub ... or take the quaint timber ferry hourly across to Dangar Island for a snack at the general store / cafe and a short bushwalk - or book our optional Hawkesbury River Luncheon Cruise..... or,

...continue on to Gosford to experience the entire waterway route and picnic in the park by the Broadwater.
