3801's Boiler Under Construction
The construction of 3801’s new, welded boiler, provides
a rare chance to see right inside the fabricated
interior as it takes form. For many, it’s also an
opportunity to ponder just how the normally simple-looking
exterior of a locomotive boiler, belies the
internal complexity and precise construction within.
During a visit to Dampflokwerk Meiningen on May 21, 2010, the RTM was given the opportunity of capturing many images of 3801's new boiler under construction. The images which best communicate the story are presented here — captions will follow soon.
Commencing with this project update, the page-design has changed to include animated image galleries — three galleries in this update — enabling more images to be presented in the same space and making navigation much easier for visitors. Not familiar with animated image galleries? ....click here.

Need help with animated galleries?

- To set an automatic slide-show in motion, use the VCR-like 'play' button located in the footer of the main image.
- In 'play' (slide-show) mode, images appear for about 6 seconds. Use the 'pause' button at any time if you want to linger longer.
- To manually advance or return to an image, use the 'fwd' and 'rev' buttons.
- To select a specific image, drag the slider-bar at the bottom to show all the (thumbnail) images in the gallery, then click on the image you want to view.
- For a larger image and, to better display vertical (portrait-format) images, click on the left-most (rectangular) button in the playback controls — and click it again to bring back the thumbnail images.
